Contradictions

Published January 14, 2015 by naomirettig

I want you to hold me
But I push you away,
I want to talk to you
But I don’t know what to say.

I want to be rescued
But look after myself,
Enjoy being single
But not left on the shelf.

I want to be adored
But given my space,
Have a whirlwind romance
At a slow, languid pace.

I need you to want me
But to not suffocate,
Love me forever,
Please don’t let it turn to hate.

Clouds

Published January 14, 2015 by naomirettig

Plump, squidgy clouds that want to be cuddled,
Swirly fast skinny ones all mixed up and muddled,
Celestial jellyfish floating up high,
Giraffes and elephants bobbing on by.

Angry black fierce clouds all mean and moody,
Swollen full with rainwater, darker and broody,
Battling horsemen galloping fast aloft
While sharks, eels and vipers sneakily waft.

Unique and so special, not seen again,
Dried up by the sun and erased by the rain,
Like souls moving on through the heavens above,
Each one has been embraced by natures love.

Can We

Published January 14, 2015 by naomirettig

Can we run down the beach
And into the waves,
Go deep sea exploring
To underground caves.

Can we climb mountains high
To reach for the moon,
Maybe catch a lift
On a hot air balloon.

Can we lie in a field
Watching clouds in the sky,
Holding hands in the grass
As swallows fly by.

Can we snuggle up close
In a warm embrace,
Gliding through life
At our very own pace.

Burning Secrets

Published January 14, 2015 by naomirettig

It started off just as a joke
By staking him out on the ground,
We didn’t start to cause any harm
Only to just provoke.

The sand was hot and coarse to feel
When we left him there alone,
It was when the hot sphere came out
That started his ordeal.

The sun rose high into the sky,
Beads of sweat gathered on his brow,
Turning a very dark orange
Blisters broke out on his thigh.

The pus filled bubbles were red,
Then yellow-like gunge oozed out.
These blisters exploded all over
Leaving pits in his head.

His eyes shrivelled like dead mushrooms,
His throat was boiled dry and on fire,
Immense black shadows of vultures
Circle as they loom.

We both went back after a day
To see if he would pass the test,
To our horror we found the body
Dead in the silent bay.

Boris

Fat cat Boris lying out in the sun
Taking time out from frolics and fun,
Dreaming of hunting down birds and mice,
Cute little voles are his gourmet vice.
If solar powered he’d shine all day
Lighting the neighbourhood June to May.
He stores up cuddles from passers by,
A grin on his face as big as a pie.
Tummy rubs are his favourite pleasures
High on his list of his all time treasures,
But top of that list is when home in bed
He’s curled up snug with his cuddly Ted.
